Cattails are one of those problems that sneak up on you. What starts as a patch along the edge turns into a dense wall of overgrowth that blocks water access, shades out everything underneath, and slowly chokes the life out of your pond. That's exactly what we were dealing with on this Lincoln pond.

We started with a targeted treatment to knock back the cattails before bringing in the Truxor - our amphibious cutting machine. Treating first is key. It weakens the root structure so the physical removal that follows is actually effective. Skip that step and you're fighting the same battle again next season.

Once the treatment had time to work, we moved in with the Truxor to cut through the overgrowth and manually pull the material out of the water. This is where aquatic weed control gets physical. Cutting alone isn't enough - if you leave the dead material floating or sitting on the bottom, it breaks down and feeds the next generation of weeds. We pull it out completely.

The difference after a job like this is hard to miss. Open water where there was none. Cleaner access to the shoreline. A pond that actually looks like a pond again. Beyond the appearance, removing that much organic material also improves water quality - less decomposing plant matter means less nutrient load driving future weed and algae growth.

If your pond is getting crowded out by cattails or other aquatic weeds, the longer you wait the harder the job gets. These plants spread fast and the root mats get thicker every year. Getting ahead of it - or catching up to it with the right equipment - makes a real difference in what your pond looks and functions like long term.
